CYNTHIA YANG

Cynthia Yang is a brown belt under Mike Jaramillo and is a co-founder/instructor at Renzo Gracie East Side Martial Arts. She has enjoyed teaching classes at the Renzo Gracie Academy HQ, where she started her BJJ journey.

Cynthia loves introducing people to jiu jitsu — especially people who never saw themselves wanting to try a combat sport. She believes that martial arts offer transformative opportunities for personal development and is convinced that BJJ in particular can change a person’s life

Although she would try to negotiate spending recess reading in the library rather than playing outside when she was a grade-schooler, Cynthia found herself as an adult engaging in a number of fitness & movement practices. She enjoyed training in boxing, jeet kune do, parkour, and capoeira before discovering BJJ.

It has been a pleasure for Cynthia to be involved with The Happy Pill Project, particularly in the creation of free resources such as “How to Speak Happy Pill”, an illustrated glossary that provides definitions & annotated photos of key terms (many with links to the YouTube video they came from), and flowcharts of what is covered in some of the full lessons on YouTube
